Snow Feels Like Sand

When the temperature drops to around -40C° or -50C°, the sledding becomes extremely bad. It is like hauling over sand. I think it's the same with the case of ski: the snow must contain water in some extent; otherwise, it won't slide well. I assume when it becomes too cold, the snow becomes like sand particle and harder to slide on. In contrast, when it's around -20C°, you can't believe how easy and smooth the sledding will be. Temperature makes a big difference.
