Global Warming

I hear that due to global warming the sea ice is getting thin and Inuit hunters sometimes fall into the ocean or cannot go offshore. At the same time, influenced by the cultures and market economy of Southern Canada, people are now less dependent on hunting. Long time ago there were only Inuit people in Resolute Bay and currency did not exist in that society. But now dogsleds were replaced by snowmobile, jeans replaced fur skin, and people eat potatoes and bacon rather than raw meat.

Looking around the goods sold at CO-OP in Resolute Bay, the second northernmost town in Canada, there are no differences compared to those of Southern Canada. Norman in the above picture is a hardworking man who works at the kitchen of the hotel. He is always kind to children and every time he sees a child he call out his/her name and pat him/her on the head. He is also a 19-year-old fine marksman who is ranked number one in Junior Canadian Ranger Shooting.

I wonder how this arctic region will transform as they grew older.

Wayne provides valuable weather information by showing us satellite images on the Internet. He has been supporting many expedition teams who stayed in Resolute Bay. He actually welcomes global warming, as it eases the severity of life in the arctic region.
